BODHRAN WORKSHOP IN COBBLESTONE
DUBLIN

Neill is from Bayside on Dublin's northside. He began to play music at the age of 12 under the guidance of Fidelma and Mick O'Brien. Neill initially started off on the tin whistle but soon took a greater interest in the bodhrán.
In 1994, at the age of 16, Neill won the first place in the under 18s bodhrán competition at the All-Ireland Fleadh, Clonmel, Co Tipperary. In 2006 Neill was the inaugural winner of The World Bodhrán Championships (senior), held in Milltown, County Kerry. This important win gained Neill respect as a bodhrán player not only in Ireland but internationally.
Throughout thre years Neill was given some sound advice in traditional music from the likes of Damien Quinn (Donal Lunny band 1988),Eamonn De Barra, Paul McNevin,Peter Browne,the list goes on…

Why EIRE IN KELTIA chosen Neill Lyons as the workshop?

Nathalie, bought the CD Skins and Sins,which was produced by Neill and Eamonn De Barra., which was released at the end of 2008.here she discovered a new but nevertheless very traditional sound in the bodhran.
In March, 2009, Neill went to Brittany ,to Le Bono festival where he taught the bodhran to many fine French bodhran players,which was organized by Eddy Guilloteau.
Nicolas Dupin, a friend who also plays the bodhran, talked a lot about Neill's way of teaching and it is what motivated Nathalie for this workshop.
In addition, Neill and his band played a concert on the island of Inis Oirr during the bodhran festival «  Craiceann « in june of 2009.
Some people wished to obtain some lessons from Neill, but Neill had to leave the day after the concert. Nathalie then suggested to organize a workshop in October and association the event with the exchange, planned for several months between Cobblestone pub in Dublin and the Dubliners pub of Toulouse. Nathalie has thanked a Neill for having agreed to take some hours of his time to make us discover his way to approach the bodhran!
For EIRE IN KELTIA, it is the first time that the association organizes an event in Ireland!
For the COBBLESTONE, it is the first time that a workshop of bodhran takes place!

Fees: 50€ by person
Registeration: 15 pm
Schedules of workshop: 16 pm to 19 pm, saturday and sunday

dommage que Toulouse est si loin de Bruxelles, cela m'aurait bien plus :-)

j'ai il y a quelques années visité une fabrique de bodhrans à Roundstone dans le comté de Galway, ce fut fabuleux
si tu as l'occasion d'y passer un jour...
